Who we are
WOCO is national non- governmental and non- profiting making organization formed by group of women in 2011 who were concerned and touched by the suffering of marginalized women and children. WOCO seeks to support the development and protection of these vulnerable group, promote and advocate for policies that favour their rights, improve their status and enhance their decision-making capacity at all levels. Engagement of these vulnerable group in participatory empowerment programs will enable them grow and develop to their full potential.WOCO believes that education is the key to unlock the potential and the hidden treasures in children particularly girls who are the most affect by the cultural practice and beliefs, therefore it strive to ensure that the barriers that prevent children partipcation and access to education are address and advocated for.
WOCO as a women led organization is so concern about peaceful coexistence among the society and believed that peace is a fundamental component of society development and personal growth. At the heart of every faith community and culture, lies a need to promote peaceful co-existence to enhance productive and sustainable societies. Peace underlies our quality of life and the structure of our communities. The society is becoming highly fragmented, less peaceful and unsafe for both present and future generations. Our society today is engulfed by an environment of tension, violence, declining values, injustices, reduced tolerance and respect for human rights, threatening the future of women, men and children who deserve a peaceful and better quality of life. WOCO will ensure that community are engaged in peace building and conflict transformation to promote peaceful coexistence among them.
What we do
- Reaching women and children with life saving services which include family tracing and reunification of UASC, provision of case management services to children with protection concern.
- Provide psychosocial support to the affect groups through community based psychosocial support and collaborate with other actors and partners to promote resilience programs .
- Support program that promote and improve women’s access to secure livelihood and economic resources.
- Raise the community awareness and increase advocacy on issues related to rights violation and abuse.
- Reach the community with information on peace building and conflict transformation.
- Organize forums and conferences that bring together community and their duty bearers to discuss and address issues facing them
