Hundreds of thousands of children in South Sudan suffer unthinkable distress due to armed conflict, natural disasters and other humanitarian emergencies.

They are forced to flee their homes, some separated from their parents and caregivers along the way. During conflict many children endure staggering violence, severe injuries and the threat of recruitment into armed groups. Many are cut off from fundamental services like clean water, health care and education, especially as villages become militarized and communities divided.

Through it all, children often lack access to mental health and psychosocial support, with potentially devastating long-term effects.

South Sudan Widows and Orphans Charitable Organization has established psychosocial program in three locations of Aburoc, Malakal, and Kodok in order to speed up the process of recovery and to prevent problems that children may encounter in the future.

The organization has set up Child Friendly Spaces, CFS in these locations to provide specific targeted activities designed to increase the resilience and coping of children, but in general it is an approach to the care and treatment of children which can be considered psychosocially supportive.

In these centers, WOCO provides cross cutting educational and recreational activities that are supportive to children psychosocial support needs.
