At least sixty children in Malakal POCs have participated in games that were designed for emotional response and anger management.  The games and the plays were part of the psychosocial support intervention to war affected children in the area to manage anger and their responses to emotion.

The children were introduced to the covering the space, a type song with expression that instruct a selected team member to take action and provide solution to the problem, Felekete-felekata, a dance competition to relief stress and a mirror game, which is a role play where two children are selected to represent the roles of a person and a mirror respectively. The person does something and mirror repeat exactly what the person did. In this play a person can learn from one another’s action and behavior.

South Sudan is known for wars and conflicts in the sub-Saharan Africa where inter-communal violence and resulting displacement left around 2.5 million people- most of them are children at risk of developing mental health problems.

WOCO and War child Holland are working together to address psychosocial challenges in children brought about by the wars and natural disasters.

The games and plays follow a designed syllabus in UNICEF approved facilitators’ guide that is used throughout psychosocial support activities in CFS.
