Family Tracing and Reunification
Nyabito final was reunited with her mother in Kodok Since December 2013, brutal conflict in South Sudan has claimed thousands of lives and driven nearly five million people from their homes. While many remain displaced inside the country, more than two million have fled to neighbouring countries in a desperate bid in search for safety. Food insecurity, as well as economic crisis has intensified the protection risks for the affected people. Thousands of children are either missing or separated from their parents. South Sudan’s crisis is characterised by serious violations and abuses against civilians, including widespread sexual and gender-based violence and forced child recruitment. Separated and Unaccompanied children are at risk of being exposed to protection concern which includes abduction, trafficked,or sexual abuse or exploitation. WOCO continuously mobilize the community on prevention of children what to do to ensure children are not separated from their families the mobilization start immediately from the time crisis occurred and it continue till the community settled. WOCO works in collaboration with UNICEF ,Save the children and other FTR partners to ensure that the identified cases of separated and unaccompanied including children are registered entered into the CPIMS system and children whose cases are successfully traced are reunified with their parents or primary caregivers ,cross boarder cases if identified are report to ICRC. Interim care is provided for separated and unaccompanied children from their families until they are reunited, they are placed under foster carers responsibility, the care arrangement can either long term of short term based on the complexity of the cases. Chol was finally reunited with his uncle in Juba WOCO in has achieved notable mile stones in family tracing and reunification more than 300 hundred children where successfully reunified with their primary caregivers in South Sudan some of the reunification that made WOCO to be proud of is the 4000 (The child Nyabito and sibling reunified with their in Kodok) and the 5000 (The child Chol reunified with his uncle in Juba) reunification in south Sudan. Children who are awaiting reunification with their primary caregivers are provided with comprehensive case management servicewhich includes psychosocial support, livelihood, shelter, referral to relevant services providers based on the needs of the child.The 4000 reunification in South Sudan.
