This year commemoration of international Human Rights Day is celebrated under the theme, “Dignity, Freedom and Justice for all” on the Saturday 10th December, 2022 and is the 75th anniversary since 1948 when universal human rights was declared.
In South Sudan, as the world commemorate the day, thousands of civilians are being driven away from their homes in community trigered conflict in Upper Nile Fashoda County.
Reports from the location indicate that many civilians are being displaced from their homes and are sheltered in Kodok town where they are minimally getting supports from some humanitarian agencies on the ground. Many children are unaccompanied and are separated from their parents or care givers. South Sudan Widows and Orphans Charitable Organization, SWOCO with support from UNICEF is providing Child Friendly Space in emergency to the children currently taking shelter at UNMISS base in Kodok.
“As the world faces challenges new and ongoing – pandemics, conflicts, exploding inequalities, morally bankrupt global financial system, racism, climate change – the values, and rights enshrined in the UDHR provide guideposts for our collective actions that do not leave anyone behind”.
As a “common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations”, the UDHR is a global blueprint for international, national, and local laws and policies and a bedrock of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.
